Two Sydney Icons – splendour and struggle

An in-depth look at the design and human stories of Sydney’s global icons

Two Sydney Icons – splendour and struggle

Two Sydney Icons – splendour and struggle

Our private walking tour celebrates Sydney’s visual grandeur through its two best known icons. We take a close look at Sydney Opera House and Sydney Harbour Bridge to uncover the complexity of Sydney’s past and present. Our walk is a visual celebration in parallel with a dive into Sydney’s biggest stories.

Who is the tour designed for?

Active travellers with a love of design, architecture, art, history and cities will find this walk fascinating. Photographers will enjoy the different angles on Sydney’s best known icons, the harbour and the wider cityscape.

Discover

  • An intimate encounter with two of the world’s most recognisable landmarks of design and engineering – and the fascinating challenges of politics and engineering that plagued their creation.
  • How the location of the Opera House at Bennelong Point connects with stories of dispossession of Sydney’s First Peoples and their early interaction with the colonists.
  • The lives and the scandals of the key people from Sydney and around the world, who shaped Sydney’s global landmarks.
  • The walk across Sydney Harbour Bridge, climbing the Pylon lookout for breathtaking city views.
  • Sydney Harbour’s northern shore and the quirky gardens that remembers a bohemian artist enclave that flourished here in the 1960s and 1970s.
  • Representation of Sydney Harbour in art since the arrival of convict painters in 1788.
